Fur Baby Cookie Treats

I demand TREATS!!! I am not free labour. I do not entertain humans for free. There is a price to be had for this fuzzy cuteness, the adorable faces I make to amuse you, and the so called “Mousing” I do, pretend like…I might be a tiny bit afraid of mice, but not deer! I’ll chase a deer, For Realz! I’m only afraid of the trees and the forest and branches and leaves and muddy water that stands in the way of the deer. Sometimes those leaves just blow around and make such frightening noises…But do not think me a Fraidy Cat (although I may be a touch scared of felines), I’m a tough chick, bess believe!!!

Finally, let’s begin to make my treats. It’s about time we make something for me…I mean “us”. I will share my Cookie Treats with all the other doggie folks around, but do not come near my face while I’m eating one. I’ll get all Chihuahua in the eyes on ya, freaky-deaky like.

serious about cookie treats
oats and salt
First things first, we only like the best of the best ingredients. Himalayan Pink salt, organic oats, fresh pressed carrot juice, freshly roasted pumpkin. Only the best for us Fur Babies. Ok, so if you must be lazy, organic canned pumpkin is fine.

I love fresh pressed carrot juice!

So, in this recipe I’m going to ask you to knead the oat dough for 3 minutes. Hey, don’t be a nerd!! Really knead that dough for the full 3 minutes, thank you so much.
making mumsie knead
I make Mumsie do the kneading since I don’t know how to. This is what makes my doggie cookies nice and super duper crunchy…developing that oat-y, sticky-gumminess, kinda like developing gluten, but not really gluten.

The first time Mum made these treats for me was at home. They were A-mazing, but there simply was just not enough. You may need to Decuple this given recipe, meaning increase it tenfold, thanks.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon ground flax mixed with 3 Tablespoons warm water (=1 fax egg)
  • 2 + 1/2 cups organic oats, divided into a 2 cup measure and reserving the 1/2 cup for later
  • 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan Pink salt
  • 1/4 cup of canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup fresh carrot juice

How to Make ‘Em

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl combine the 2 cups of oats, salt, pumpkin and carrot juice.
  3. Stir together with your fingers and knead for 3 minutes, then mix in the rest of the oats until thoroughly combined.
  4. Let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.
  5. Dump this mixture onto a cutting board or flat surface oiled with a thin layer of coconut oil.
  6. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Use your cutie pie doggie cookie cutters to cut out shapes. (*see notes)
  8. Transfer the cookies to a parchment lined baking sheet or two.
  9. Bake for at least 1 hour, turning over your fur baby’s cookies halfway through cooking time.
  10. Check & turn over one more time after the 1 hour is up, then into the oven they go for another 15-30 minutes. (**see notes)
  11. Remove from oven and allow them to cool completely.
  12. Store in an airtight container for many treating sessions.

*Makes nowhere near enough Cookie Treats

notes:

*Since this is a very sticky dough, maybe try coconut oil on your fingertips. Also, oil the cookie cutters!

**All ovens Always vary! Always check your baking more than once until you get to know your oven…intimately.

jumps 4 treats
How about Mass Production? That would be great. The second time she made them was no joke. We were working at Sandy Island where Mama makes Vegan food for humans, so she has access to a big kitchen with some big equipment.

So I was all like, “Hey, Mumsie, just make a huge amount. That’s all I ask. Awesome, thanks”. We’ve got some serious doggie time going on on this Island, so we need a massive amount of treats here.
