Healthy Peanut Buttery Doggie Candies

I’m dreaming, dreaming, dreeeeeeeaming of candies for dogs…Can’t someone invent some already!?

Wow! What a dream…

Hello there, Friendly Humans. I’m Penelope Chi, the vegan minded, not so vegan, blogging Chihuahua. Thank you so much for checking us out. We love having you!
Mumsie made me Doggie Candies! Magnificent. We are honored to share this mouth party of a recipe with you. Your Fur Babies are going to want to murder these treats! Not only are they temptingly sublime and make you do humiliating “tricks”, like High-Five and such, they are super healthy, yay.
This is going to be quite the educational blah, blah, blog post since it is filled with such good-for-us-pooches ingredients.

Raw Coconut Oil is much more superior and healthy because it has never been exposed to heat. Virgin Coconut Oil comes in second best and is great too, when you can’t find raw. Also, make sure the peanut butter you use has no Xylitol. I don’t like toxins, thank you very much.
Be aware when giving these treats! This you should know in advance, they may encourage bowel movements as the coconut oil improves digestion and can help with elimination.
Start slowly! If your candy mold size is about a teaspoon, give a large dog only 1 treat or a small dog only 1/4 treat, even less if they have a sensitive constitution. It is imperative that you start out very slow, otherwise your Precious Princess or Prince could suffer with stomach upset at first, or worse, yucky diarrhea! What a disagreeable and mortifying debacle for one to be in! I, of course, have always had spectacular bowel movements from the start. Perchance I’m a snob? Quite likely.

The benefits of coconut oil for your tail-wagger are many. It pumps up the metabolism, boosts energy and vitality, accelerates healing, improves dog’s skin and coat, helps to clear up eczema, improves digestion, increases nutrient absorption, helps with colitis and inflammatory bowel syndrome, helps relieve allergies and itchy skin, prevents and treats yeast and fungal infections, takes the stink out of bad puppy breath, provides support to pooches with arthritis or ligament problems, helps with coughing, the list goes on!
The benefits of cinnamon & rosemary for dogs is fascinating. Ceylon cinnamon can help to keep blood sugar levels regular and steady, is an anti-fungal and antibacterial. Cinnamon is also anti-inflammatory, so it’s great for golden aged dogs who struggle with arthritis. Rosemary, fresh & finely minced, (not essential oil!), is an antioxidant, promotes heart health, supports digestion, repels bugs and is an antimicrobial. Again, a little goes a long way. Never any more than 1/2 tsp per day for large dogs. (Hey, we looked this stuff up on the internet so it must be true, but don’t take our word for it. Always take your cherished hounds to the Veterinarian if they are having any health problems, Puh-leez!)

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup smooth, all natural peanut butter, unsweetened
  • 1/3 cup raw or virgin, unrefined coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground chia seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon finely chopped, fresh rosemary or 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

How to Make ‘Em

  1. Add the peanut butter, coconut oil, chia seeds, then the rosemary or cinnamon (whichever you chose) all together into a heat resistant glass bowl.
  2. Place the bowl on top of a pot filled with a shallow bit of simmering water, making sure the water does not touch the glass bowl.
  3. Stir the mixture until melted, smooth and well combined.
  4. Put silicone molds of your choice onto a sheet pan.
  5. Carefully pour the mixture into the silicone molds.
  6. Place the sheet pan into the freezer until the candies solidify.
  7. Remove the candies from the mold.
  8. These yummy treats should be stored in the refrigerator in an air-tight container or baggies.
